# SCS Hackathon #6 - 2026

## What
This is a Hackathon for the SCS Community. While it is named "Hackathon" all activities around digital sovereign cloud infrastructure in the context of the SCS project are welcome. This ranges from hacking code, creating and improving docs, sharing and fostering knowledge to just having fun with like minded people.
This SCS Hackathon will focus specifically on SCS KaaS (Kubernetes-as-a-Service) standards and certification. If you work with Kubernetes, want to help shape the standards, and aim to achieve certification in the end, this is the right place for you.
*Highlight:* On Tuesday afternoon, there will be a guided tour of the Nuremberg–Fürth Data Center. If you would like to take part, please indicate this during registration.
--> Important: You must bring a valid ID with you.
For this to be something that everyone values and enjoys we have certain rules which are laid out in the [Code of Conduct](https://docs.scs.community/community/mission-statement#code-of-conduct).
The host of the SCS Hackathon will be Rechenzentrum Nürnberg-Fürth – ScaleUp Technologies.

## Topics
This SCS Hackathon will focus specifically on SCS KaaS (Kubernetes-as-a-Service) standards and certification. If you work with Kubernetes, want to help shape the standards, and aim to achieve certification in the end, this is the right place for you.
Feel invited to list topics you want to engage in in the table below (e.g. hacking session, workshop, etc.)
### Do you have something exciting you’d like to present?
If you have an exciting topic related to KaaS that you’d like to share, you’re warmly invited to do so. Please feel free to add your presentation topic to the table too.
| Title of the session | Hacking session / Workshop / Presentation / ? | Short description of the session | What should be the outcome at the end of the session? | Who leads the session? (GitHub handles preferred) |
| -------- | -------- | -------- | -------- | -------- |
| SCS KaaS compliance testing | Hacking session | In this session, we want to stabilize the KaaS part of the SCS compliance test suite and overall testing in order to comply with the [regulations of SCS-0004](https://docs.scs.community/standards/scs-0004-v1-achieving-certification#regulations), both for operators as well as the assessment body. | Ready-to-use compliance testing for SCS-compatible KaaS certification | @depressiveRobot |
| SCS-KaaS testing Tarook | Hacking Session | We'll try to run the SCS-KaaS compliance check against a [Tarook](tarook.cloud) cluster, and draft the required [plugin](https://github.com/SovereignCloudStack/standards/tree/main/Tests/kaas/plugin) | SCS-KaaS results and tests plugin for Tarook | @toothstone |
| UX improvements for the compliance monitor | Hacking session | for instance, e-mail notifications for failed tests | compliance monitor will send e-mail notifications to some address (could even be a hardcoded one for the time being) | @mbuechse |
| UX improvements for operators | Hacking session | We want to look at the UX of making/keeping an environment compliant and improve that. | e.g., issues/pull requests for image manager | @mbuechse |
| [SCS Reference Implementation](https://input.scs.community/NwtLWp6tSFWCUdGXFB5Z6g) | Hacking session | We will update the Cluster Stacks repository to be easier to use and better understandable. Many things are obsolete and can be removed completely, the build process of single Cluster Stacks will be improved. | - Cluster Stacks repo with only maintained Cluster Stacks for the infrastrcuture providers OpenStack and Docker. <br /> - New "moin-cluster" <br /> See [own HedgeDoc](https://input.scs.community/NwtLWp6tSFWCUdGXFB5Z6g) | @jschoone |
| SCS-KaaS testing Rancher | Hacking Session | Analogue to the Tarook Session, this session will look into SCS-Testing Rancher / RKE2. Depending on the participants and the Tarook Group, we could merge this session, since parts could be overlapping. TBD. | We're able to run conformance tests against RKE2 and could certify that. | @fkr |
| SCS-KaaS testing Gardener | Hacking Session | Analogue to the other Sessions, this session will look into SCS-Testing Gardener. Likely we will merge this, given it seems thats what everyone is here for :) | We're able to run conformance tests against Gardener. | @benedikt-haug |
### Wishlist
If **you** would to see a session on a certain topic, but can't lead the session: no worries - just add it here so others can see and maybe offer something like that
- KaaS SCS conformance outside of the SCS reference implementation: what about Gardener, Rancher, ... - I would like to see a hands on session where we throw the tests against kubernetes clusters not built with clusterstacks (@fkr)
- Feel free to join/expand the Tarook session, we can ask the Yake team or STACKIT or noris network for a Gardener shoot (@toothstone)

## Information about T-Shirt/Hoodie
All participants will receive an SCS T-shirt or hoodie as a small keepsake from the hackathon. As the final decision hasn’t been made yet, we’ll collect size information for both options via email.Taking the gift is optional—please only do so if you’ll wear it! The design remains a secret, but it has passed the SCS Standards Forum style check 😉
