Maybe for immature or insecure narcissists, but the rest of us would rather know what level of interest exists so that we can respond accordingly. If he’s really interested and I’m really interested, this dance of holding back can cause me to squelch my own interest, thinking it’s not reciprocated. And if he’s not and pretends to be, because he’s too cowardly to convey that in person, then I am wasting my time hoping for something more.
